Heroine 2
Do you believe in 100 years, this novel will be considered a "classic"? Will it stand the test of time and be something that students will be reading in an English class of the future? Why or why not?

I do not believe that "Heroine" will become a classic. While it does teach you things, it doesn't really teach you those big life lessons that you need to know. Its got a lot of controversial topics but it does really have a big impact because this is a topic that has already been talked a bout and is being talked about. It isn't breaking through with a really controversial that hasn't already been talked about.
ReplyDeleteI agree that I do not think it really would have a big impact because of the topic. I wish the author would have focused more on her relationships with Luther and other teammates. I think it would have maybe been more likely to be read in an English class if it did focus more on other parts of Mickey's world.
DeleteI do not think Heroine will be a classic in 100 years. While it is a great example of contemporary young adult literature, it focuses too much on one topic to be a classic. Drug abuse is a sensitive topic that needs to be talked about through literature, however Heroine is too 'zoomed in' on it. Classics teach readers a lesson or show growth in multiple areas of a character's life. This novel targets one topic and really hits it hard. Heroine is not a book to disregard, but I don't think it will be a classic.
ReplyDeleteYou have amazing points and think you are correct in your views. It is a fabulous book but its a little to overwhelming in one topic to really get anything else from it.
DeleteGood point, but I think its so "zoomed in" on her addiction through-out the book is because when you are addicted to something it is your life and always on you mind, so i think its very realistic that it was so big of a topic in the book
DeleteI don't believe that Heroine will become a classic in 100 years. It does teach you many things about drug addiction but it only focuses on that. I think that it's a great book to read but it is really focused on drug addiction and how she overcomes that. While drug addiction is a very sensitive subject I don't think many people will be reading it in an English class.
ReplyDeleteI do not think Heroine with be a classic in 100 years. I think this because though it may teach about drugs and alcohol, it is very intense and could make people who deal with some of these issues very uncomfortable. Heroine is also a pretty small scale book meaning that not a lot of people have really heard about it before, so it may be hard to gain popularity to be read in classes. I think it also focuses a lot on drugs and you want to see more of Mickey's life outside of drugs and how she interacts with people, not just focusing on one point.
ReplyDeleteHeroine is a fantastic book and honestly I do think it will be considered a must read in 100 years from now, the reason I believe it will be is because of how common addiction to things such as Nicotine is in this generation I believe that once generation Z gets older most of us would have some kind of story about addiction. I think we will read Heroine and we will relate to her addiction and come to terms with our own.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. I think, even though it was a good book, that addiction is very common and a big issue and this book didn't go in depth enough and didn't teach use enough for it to become a classic. I think that it only scratched the surface of how horrible and how debilitating addiction can be. For a book to be a classic it would have to teach the reader something every time they read it. It is also not a widely heard of book, which means it won't be that heard of in the future.
DeleteMy original plan was to write yet another comment how how this book won't be considered a classic, but I'm going to attempt being devil's advocate. In 100 years society will go through multiple phases, and multiple new drugs and security measures will be invented. In 100 years I believe that addiction will become a rarer problem, and the ways to detect and detox a person will be superior. How does this relate to a novel becoming a classic? Well, when we pass a big hurdle, like the Great Depression or Civil Rights, novels related to those events become classic because they remind us of the challenge that these people went through to get us here today. Heroine is a perfect example of young teens being caught in the trap of drugs and addiction. In 100 years, my idea is that addiction would be such a thing of the past that English classes would give students this book so they could connect with a main character, but at the same time become alienated by this struggle. Just as we struggle to understand the disease outbreaks of the H1N1 flu in 1918, these students will instead wonder how this drug issue plagued students of the 21st century.
ReplyDeleteWhile Heroine was a very good book, I don't think it will become a classic. Classics have to have big life lessons or many different small lessons. They are books that keep teaching no matter how many times you read it. Yes this book teaches you things, but if I were to reread it, I don't really feel like I would get much more out of it. It covered one big topic, drug addiction, it exhausted it pretty fully and there isn't really much else to say or to get out of it if it were to be read multiple times.
ReplyDeleteI agree that is was a fantastic book. I also totally agree that it it solely focused on the drug/addiction aspect of the story, and didn't really give the reader anything else to really focus on or learn.
DeleteI agree. I don't think that this book will be a classic but I think that this is a great book. Classics have to last a life time and that have a everlasting message. I think that this book has a great a great message but I don't think it will last a life. There are so many books that go over the same topic.
Deletei agree with bree and belle. The was amazing and covered hard topices that no one would ever want to go threw but i dont i will be a classic in the future, like bree said there are many other more popular books that cover the same topic
DeleteI don't think that heroine will become a classic. Heroine teaches many valuable lessons and shows how drugs can ruin your life from the prospective as the user. Drug addiction is very real problem and most definitely continue to be one, but people don't seem to want to talk about it. And for that reason alone is why it probably won't be a classic.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. The book does have good lessons, but the topic isnt really something that would make the book be a classic. Very nice way of putting it.
DeleteI agree that it most likely will not become a classic. It is just a very touchy subject for many people and it may not be something parents want their kids to be reading in school.
DeleteI personally dont think Heroine wiill become a classic. Classics usually have a very deep meaning and life lessons in them. Heroine did discuss drug use/addiction which is a very important topic since its a big problem in todays society, but its not really the topic of a classic. Heroine was an amazing book, but it doesnt have the characteristics to become a classic.
ReplyDeleteI disagree about Heroine not becoming a classic years from now. I say this because the novel covers drug addiction in such a realistic way and that is a problem that exists not only in today's society, but I am certain will still be a problem in the future, as well. This novel is eye-opening for teens and parents alike and portrays a realistic sense of how easily it is to become addicted to drugs. It would be an excellent read for people to have a greater understanding of the world of drugs and how addiction is real and never ending.
DeleteI don't think Heroine will be considered a classic. It wasn't exactly impactful per say and it wasn't as popular as other books about drug addictions. Although it did discuss heavy topics and was a very meaningful book, but people tend to shy away from books that are more painfully real.
ReplyDeleteI liked the book a lot, but I don't think that it will be a classic in 100 years. Heroine focuses too much on just the drug aspect of the story, and normally classics have more of a story to it. For example, the book maybe could have gone more in-depth on Mickey's parents divorce, or maybe have Mickey find her real mom, something like that. Instead, it only gave us little snippets of her past, and solely focused on her addiction. Also, to disagree with many of the comments, I think that in 100 years, everyone will be okay with talking about drugs, so I don't think that "drugs being a sensitive topic" will be a factor in it being a classic. I still don't think that it will be a classic, though, mainly because of how the story is told.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Heroine will be a classic in 100 years. However I do think that everyone should read Heroine because it is such a amazing book. There are so many books that keep coming out and so many authors with different genres that it is extremely hard to predict what would be a classic. This book could be a classic because it is a great book but in my opinion it most likely wont be. Also I 100 years many things could change and this book just wont make sense in that time. Overall I think this is a great book but I don't think that this will be a classic in 100 years.
ReplyDeleteI think that the book Herione will not be conisdered in 100 years. It is a very good book in all but i dont think it will be conisdered a classic because it focuas so much on the drugs that we really never get to learn a lesson all we read is her addiction getting worse. Overall the book is amazing and it covers real world topics but there are also book coming out covering the same genre, but you never know what it will be like in the future, But overal i dont think this book will be considered a classic
ReplyDeleteI do believe Heroine could be considered a classic novel in 100 years, because the same problems that Mickey is facing now is easily something that teens could relate to years from now. The book is also very powerful in showing how easy one can become addicted to drugs, and sadly, I doubt drug problems are going to go away any time soon. So, yes, I could definitely see this novel as being a good read for English classes in the future, because many of the same problems teens face in this novel will still apply in the future.
