The Year They Fell 2

Do you believe in 100 years, this novel will be considered a "classic"?  Will it stand the test of time and be something that students will be reading in an English class of the future?  Why or why not?

  1. Honestly i don't think so there is not any specific reason why but i just don't think so, it definitely a great book just not good enough to be read by future generations i don't its exactly what you would call a "life changing read".

    1. I completely agree with you on the fact that this novel is far from a life changing read. I think if future generations were to read this novel, they would be completely unimpressed. While this novel does bring up several issues teens deal with today, none of the issues are developed enough in the story (with the exception of Josie's assault) to make this a powerful enough read for future generations.

  2. No, I don't believe this novel will ever be considered a classic worth reading 100 years from now. This novel will likely only interest students from this generation and, maybe the next, as it does not go in depth specifically to any of the struggles the teens were dealing with. I would say Josie's sexual assault received the most attention and background information. However, this novel mainly centered around the characters and there different backgrounds/personalities and how they were brought together once again as friends due to the loss of their parents in a plane crash.

    1. I agree, maybe if the focus would have been a little more on the problems they had and how they helped each other solve them or work towards a solution it might survive the test of time better, but it really was just a feel good book that's not really teaching or giving you anything.

  3. I just don't see it happening. It was a good read but there isn't any specific reason it should be. There are many books like this one out there, even if it isn't exactly the same, they all have the same concept. There are many good books in the world that, even though this was good, are better. It didn't change my life and there wasn't any reason it stuck out to me.

    1. I agree that there are many books already like this, even some books that we are reading for this class. It rally didn't have the wow factor to make it a classic that could be read in 100 years. I think that maybe it the author would have gone more in-depth on things like the assault Josie faced, Jack's concussions from football, Dayana's addiction, or Harrison's mental health maybe this book could develop a wow factor.

  4. I do not believe that this book will be considered a "classic" in 100 years. This novel is fantastic and deals with many important issues like relationships and addiction, there are many other books focusing on the same topics currently. I think this book has a lot of great elements its not quite in the category to be a classic because it so similar to other contemporary young adult literature today. It doesn't stand out greatly with other books I have read.

    1. I also think that this book is not within the "classic" category. The topics presented are important but it is very similar to other novels who deal with the same issues. Honestly it makes me wonder if there are many young adult novels that become classics. The requirements seem to be high, judging by how most of these novels that we're reading are not considered classics by anyone.

  5. I cant see this book being considered a classic in the future just because it is a book about high schoolers becoming friends again and struggling with everyday obstacles. Now that might be a understatement because it is a great read just not good enough to be considered one of the best from our generation. With so many competitors in my opinion it is just not one of the books that would be considered a classic.

    1. I agree, I think if it had gone more in depth about Josie's assult or about Dayana's addiction it may have had a chance. The fact that it is also very similar to many young adult books out there also leads me to think it won't become a classic. I wouldn't go as far as to say it is cliche but it is not anything unique or different enough to become a classic.

  6. I don't think this book will be considered a classic, even though it did talk about issues relevant to teens, the character's problems didn't evolve or become better like someone would hope they would. There's also similar books to it s this book doesn't exactly "stand out".

  7. The novel is a great read but it doesn't stand out as something that sends a big message. I understand that it can help people, specifically teens, in understanding certain issues. However, the book is more set on entertaining readers rather than sending a message, even if the structure is there to do so. There are also many books similar to this one, so I don't see it standing the test of time.

  8. I don't think that in a hundred years this will be considered a classic. I think it could of had bigger focus on fewer problems & that would make it classic worthy maybe. I haven't read a whole lot similar to this though so it might be the best choice for future English classes.

  9. I can't picture this book as a classic in 100 years. Although it deals with issues relevant to teens today, I do not think that it will stand the test of time. This novel doesn't really stand out to me as there is no major lesson. The structure of the book (multiple perspectives) doesn't strike me as a classic. Overall, this novel is a great read, but I do not think that it will be considered a classic in 100 years.

  10. I don't believe this will be a classic. It doesn't have any major takeaways or lessons, sure they overcome some challenges, but it's no different from any other book about being in high school, other than the loss of their parents.

    1. I agree that you don't see many classic novels with multipule points of view. I also agree that there isn't really a general lesson, which most classic novels have.

    2. I agree and Disagree with Belle. I agree with belle that the book wont be a classic becauase there is no genral lesson learned through out the story. But i disagree about it not being a classic becuase of the diffrent points of view. I thought that made the book way better becuase it let us know what the charcters are going threw and how there handaling there parents death induviduly.

  11. I don't think that this book would be a classic in 100 years. It was a great book but I don't think it'll last. There are some things in this book that are relatable but it doesn't really have anything that students can take away from it and learn from.

  12. I do not believe that this book will be a classic in the future. It is a very well written book but it isn't really ground breaking or stunning. Its one of those books that people will read but not really take much from it. Its a very relatable book but its just not strong enough to stand the test of time.

  13. i do not think this book will be a classic in the future. Classics are books that have a great meaning, or life lesson. It was a good book, and im sure lots of people will read it, but i dont really think it has what it takes to become a classic.

  14. I don't see this book as being a classic in 100 years. I think this mostly becuase there are many other books out there that cover the same content as this book, but are more widely known or have been around longer. Maybe those books wil become/ already are classics, but I think this book will just be a good book that not as many people will read.

  15. I don't think that this book will become a classic because there isn't a big lesson or something like that; you don't really learn anything from the book. This book really isn't anything different from other books in my opinion. When i think of a book that will become a classic i think of the hunger games or the hate u give not this book.

  16. I do not see this book as being a classic in 100 years. Even though i thought the book was amazaing it didn't tell a good enough story or a good enough lesson for it to be a clasic in the future. The book covered some really amazing conflicts and problems but it just isn't a good enough book to be a classic in the future
