You 2
Do you believe in 100 years, this novel will be considered a "classic"? Will it stand the test of time and be something that students will be reading in an English class of the future? Why or why not?

I personally think that this book will be considered a classic in the future. I think this because this book is famous. Famous author Stephen King quoted that the book You is "Hypnotic and Scary Totally original." And it is also a series which I think makes the book more popular. Also this book was liked by so many people it was made into a Netflix original series, where the first two seasons are on Netflix with a third season coming soon. The tv shows Instagram account has over a million followers, so i think people in the future will watch the series and really like it and they deside to read the book.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that being very popular now will probably lead to the book being very popular in the future. I think that the author did a very good job of sending her book out to the right people to read first, so that they could spread the word and make her book as popular as it is now.
Delete"You" has gained a following, that's for sure. But a famous person reading the book and having a Netflix series doesn't prove that it will last. Remember: this is 100 years. There would probably be something new that people would become attracted to instead.
DeleteI believe that in 100 years that this book will be considered a classic because so many people have recommended this book and everyone that I have talked to about You has really enjoyed it and says it is so intriguing. I don't know if it will be a book read for classes but it would be a great book for people to read because it goes over how people aren't always what they seem. Joe is a stalker and there are real people like that. However, it may be read in classes just because it has such a huge following. The book was such a great hit that they made it a lifetime and Netflix film. The online following is huge to. People are fascinated about this book. I don't know if it will be read in school but I do think that it will be a classic book to read in the future.
ReplyDeleteYes! I completely agree you explained it perfectly, good job.
DeleteI do not believe this book will be considered a classic in 100 years because, while it was intriguing, there was nothing timeless about the story. There was not a lesson to be learned to make this book unforgettable, in the way I would classify a classic novel. English classes of the future will likely not be interested in this novel, because time changes perspective. Students will be further along with technology, social media, etc., and will look at this book as "old and uncool."
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you. I think student will see this book as old and uncool because times will be so different. I like to think of it in the way of how much women's rights have changed in the last 100 years. We went from not being able to vote to making up almost half of the votes in our country. In the same way, though sexual assault and stalking is wrong now, in 100 years it will hopefully be unthinkable, which will make think book so uncool and old.
DeleteI beleive this book will be considered a classic within the next 100 years because of how popular it is right now. Many people have read it (including the famous Stephen King), and it haseven been turned into a show on Netflix. Many people have reccomended this book to me before I read it, and I've heard many good things about how everyone loves it. I think it's so popular because it's basicaly a horror story, but minus all the horror almost. The author describes it so calmly that you almost don't realize what Joe just did to a certain person, and I think it takes a lot of talent to do something that amazing yet scary.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. It is popular now but I just can't see it being something that people would be reading in English class in the future because it is just so messed up and it could give people ideas that stalking is a good thing or killing is a good thing.
DeleteI do think that this book will be considered a classic because of it being written so differently. But I don’t really think students will be reading it in an English class because of what it says in it. It’s kind of weird in some parts and it might make other students feel uncomfortable in certain parts of it.
ReplyDeleteI think it will not be considered a classic in 100 years. You is a fantastic read and its a very uniquely written but I believe the graphic language it uses will drive away many readers so it will not get the recognition it deserves.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that this book will be considered a classic. It is a very well written book but it definitely requires a specific taste in books. It has some harsh language and lots of violence and it is overall a very creepy book. It is not the kind of book you an English class would read or on the lists of books you should read before you die. Its just not that kind of book, its a book you read with your friends before watching the TV show or after the show because you thought it was interesting.
ReplyDeleteEven though the book is popular, I don't think it will become a classic. It it very creepy and requires the reader to have a specific taste in books. It is entertaining but it is not educating and may
ReplyDeletegive some people ideas about stalking and killing because it doesn't educate but it is from inside the stalkers head which is a place that everything is right. It is also not something I can see people reading in an English class in the future.
The book is popular, but, I do not think that this will be a classic. It doesn't have a life lesson. It doesn't have any real significant meaning. The only thing I really got from this book as far as meaning goes is that girls should keep an eye out for stalkers.
ReplyDeleteI do not think that this book will be considered a classic in 100 years. While it is a great read, I cannot see students reading this novel in English class. This specific piece of literature has a dark mood and is honestly really creepy. The way Joe justifies everything he does is just disgusting. Some of the scenes were also really graphic and kids my age get uncomfortable reading those.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe that "You" will be a classic novel 100 years from now. The set up of the story is very scary and unique, but the story lacks any meaningful message. Apparently this book is a popular one, with a Netflix series and all, but this doesn't make it an immediate classic. I do think that "You" could be an interesting example to show English students how to make a reader uncomfortable, but with the content involved it would be very difficult to recommend since there are teens who will be bothered by it.
ReplyDeleteI do not think You will be considered a classic a 100 years from now. Even though it focuses on interesting topics it really appeals to a certain set of people, and I think think that in 100 years this type of behavior shown in this book will NOT be considered okay whatsoever. Joe thinks he has all the power, but women have power too and will most likely have more in a 100 years. I also don't think this would be a book read in class because of the mature themes. You is very very creepy and basically only taught me to close my curtains and put a password on my phone. I think students in the future would feel very uncomfortable reading this, what Joe does is unthinkable and truly revolting.
ReplyDeleteI think this book will be considered a classic in 100 years because it's fairly known and very unique. It has it's own tv series and is a story that isn't seen very often. Regardless of Joe's twisted and wrong mind, this book will definitely be well known and remembered.
