What makes this novel a "good" example of a contemporary young adult novel? How does it represent contemporary literature of today?

Do you believe in 100 years, this novel will be considered a "classic"? Will it stand the test of time and be something that students will be reading in an English class of the future? Why or why not?
I think The Hate U Give is a good example because it is about police brutality and the BLM movement, which is a very contemporary/current thing in today's world.

DeleteThe Hate U Give represents contemporary literature of today not only through the themes, but also through the language used. The story is through the eyes of a teenager, and the language used is obviously that of a teenager. The readers are expected to know basic modern slang and have the ability to tolerate curse words.

DeleteIt is very nicely written and there is obviously a lot fo emotion behind the words. It represents contemporary young adult liturature becasue it is dealing with a very relevent topic. Police brutality and BLM and showing these issues from the otherside of the crisis. Showing how these issues really effect some people.

ReplyDeleteThe Hate U Give is an amazing example of contemporary young adult literature. It focuses on issues teenagers might face in different parts of America or the world, in their point of views. It's very relevant piece of literature about the world currently around us, talking about the Black Lives Matter movement, racism, and police brutality. This book gives perspective into a world that most people in our area don't know much about. We get a different point of view of what it is like to be a person of color, and how things like racism and police brutality affect lives.
ReplyDeletethe hate you give is a great example of young adult lit. it talks about racism, and what i think helps more of the book is that it is told from a black author so it helps us more in perspective. The hate u give also is a good example because of what happens in the story. The stuff that happens in this book is one of the biggest problems of today. It really shows us the thoughts and daily life of someone with that color of skin and it has a really powerful story.
ReplyDeleteI read On the Come Up and I think that this novel is a great example of young adult contemporary literature. The author discusses racism, violence, sexism, and other deep issues. Although these things have been going on for a very long time, only recently have authors openly written about them in their books. On the Come Up also focuses on Hip Hop and Rap culture. This offers a fresh perspective on the music industry and allows the reader to dive into a topic that isn't widely talked about in literature.
ReplyDeleteI think that The Hate U give is a good example of contemporary literature of today because this book is about problems that people are currently dealing and struggling with. The book can also give a perspective that you really don't get to see if your not a person of color which can be very eye opening and give a good look at what they have to deal with in day to day life, and in my opinion is what made this books story so powerful.

DeleteThis novel is a good example of contemporary literature, because it portrays a very realistic story. The reader can place themselves in Starr's shoes and understand her perspective on what it is to be an African American in today's world. The novel is an excellent example of literature today, because it relates to the Black Lives Matter movement. Unfortunately, we are still seeing unnecessary police brutality toward blacks in many cases.
